REIA is led by a board of directors who guide the strategic direction and policy goals of the organisation. The board works with the CEO and an experienced management team to achieve outcomes for the institute and its members.

The board consists of one representative from each state or territory, nominated by the respective state or territory Real Estate Institute.

  • Malcolm Gunning, REIA President

    Malcolm was born and raised in Castlereagh, from a farming background and educated at St Dominic’s College in Penrith. In 1970 Malcolm completed a Diploma of Agriculture and commenced working on the family farm at Castlereagh and Molong.

    In 1973 he left the farm to pursue a career in real estate, working in a residential agency until 1977. Malcolm commenced working with LJ Hooker Limited in the Investment Sales Division and was appointed a Company Director in 1982 and NSW Sales Director in 1983.

    In 1985 Malcolm joined Nationwide Realty as the General Manager and shareholder, during the ensuing three years grew the brand nationally to 130 offices. In 1988 Malcolm joined Richardson & Wrench Limited as the Managing Director, a position he held until opening a family agency – Richardson & Wrench Hurstville, growing that agency to number 3 in the network before selling the business in 1996.

    In 1996 Malcolm Gunning Partners now Gunning Real Estate opened for business in Hurstville. Gunning Real Estate has been in property and consultancy for over 25 years.

    Malcolm has over 40 years of experience in all facets of real estate agency practice, property development and property valuation.

    Malcolm is a Licensed Real Estate, Stock & Station, Strata Managing Agent and Auctioneer, an Associate of the Real Estate Institute of Australia (AREI), a Fellow of the Australian Property Institute (FAPI), a Certified Practicing Valuer (CPV), a Retail and Commercial Specialist Valuer and a Certified Property Practitioner (CPP).

  • Hayden Groves, Deputy President (WA)

    Mr Groves owns real estate business, Dethridge GROVES since 2004, after having worked as a successful sales representative for the firm for many years. Mr Groves is REIWA Deputy President, President of the Real Estate Employers’ Federation WA.

  • Diane Davis, Board Director (NT)

    Diane is the President of Real Estate Institute of Northern Territory and has been a fully Licensed Real Estate Agent for 22 years. She now holds the position of Branch Operations Manager of Elders Real Estate. Diane is passionate about the industry and is an Industry Representative Member on the Agents Licensing Board (ALB) as well as President of the Real Estate Industry Board of Management, Deputy Chair of the Territory Housing Appeals Board and Commissioner of Oaths NT. In her spare time, Diane enjoys reading a good book  and travelling, particularly on the water.

  • Robyn Waters, Board Director (REIV)

    Robyn Waters FRE, FRICS, CEA (REIV)
    Robyn is a fully licenced estate agent with extensive experience across all facets of Real Estate practice.
    In 2001 Robyn also enjoyed the exciting and challenging opportunity to work in the development and ongoing success of now
    Since 2008 she has operated as a sole trader providing niche real estate services to a select portfolio of clients.
    In 2014/2015 Robyn was the World President of FIABCI (The International Real Estate Federation) and was instrumental in the development, management and implementation of the FIABCI Strategic Plan. Robyn and her Board continued to nurture the relationship with the United Nations ECOSOC particularly in the areas of protection of property rights, sustainability and affordable cities.
    Robyn is currently both REIA Trustee and the FIABCI Trustee to the International Ethical Standards Coalition.
    Robyn is a Ministerial Appointment to the Estate Agents Council – an advisory body to the Minister for Consumer Affairs Victoria.
    Robyn is also a Rotarian, a recipient of a Paul Harris Fellow, Past President, Member of the Rotary Club of Coburg, former Assistant Governor Rotary District 9790.
    Robyn is a Trustee of the Carinya Foundation, supporting the provision of adult training and support services, to persons with disabilities, in Coburg and districts.

  • Brett Roenfeldt, Board Director (SA)

    Brett commenced his career in 1979 and established a boutique agency operating in the Eastern Suburbs of Adelaide for 15 years.

    He is a licensed agent and auctioneer and a current REISA Board Director having previously served on the Board.

    In 1994, he established South Australia’s first fulltime freelance auctioneering company and has conducted in excess of 19,500 property auctions ranging from residential, commercial, farms, vineyards, and hotels.

    He currently holds a Certificate 4 in workplace training and assessment with TAELLN401A Qualification.

    Brett has been successfully running a training, coaching, and mentoring business for the Real Estate industry since 1981. He has conducted training for REISA for over 33 years.

    His training services have been sought after by REISA, REIWA, First National, Elders, Raine and Horne, Professionals, Century 21, and LJ Hooker to provide specialist training covering many aspects of Real Estate practice from auctioneering, sales skills, and strategic planning. LJ Hooker International Operations contracted his services for 5 years, providing specific in-house training for their network Australia Wide.

    Brett has served previously for 10 years on the Society of Auctioneers and Appraisers Board as President, Board Director, and Trustee of the Golden Gavel Awards.

    He has served as a judge for the Australasian Auction Competition for a number of years and was Chief Judge and Convenor for the 2012 Championships and has previously held a position on the Australasian Steering Committee for 4 years.

  • Craig Bright, Board Director (ACT)

    Craig Bright has been awarded an Associate Diploma with The Real Estate Institute of Australia and is also a registered Associate with the Real Estate Institute of the ACT and NSW. In addition to this, he has extensive experience with many of the major projects within the ACT.

    Craig has also been a member of the ACT Housing Joint Venture Panel and past representative of the ACT Business Consultative Panel.

    He is committed to professional service and has an intimate knowledge of the ACT market. Craig is well known throughout the Canberra Region and has an extensive client network with which he works very closely.

  • Leanne Pilkington, Board Director (NSW)

    Leanne is Managing Director of leading New South Wales boutique real estate group Laing+Simmons, and one of the real estate industry’s most respected and sought after commentators
    She’s the only female Managing Director in real estate franchising in New South Wales and one of only a handful in Australia. Addressing the gender imbalance, empowering women agents and pushing towards industry-wide professionalism are all key passions for Leanne.
    She continues to pioneer industry firsts such as establishing a womens real estate networking group, and introducing counselling and employee assistance programs for Laing+Simmons team members, while serving on industry bodies and championing the growth of professionalism in the industry at large
    Her 35 years of experience covers the full spectrum of real estate services: residential sales, property management, retail management, commercial leasing, property development and franchise management
    Leanne is a Licensed Real Estate Agent, completed her Ass Dip Valuation at UTS, and a Masters Degree in Business Administration at the Sydney Graduate School of Management.
    She has been a Finalist in both the Telstra and Optus Business Women awards, was awarded the REB Thought Leader for 2017, and is the current President of the REINSW

  • Adrian Kelly, Board Director (Tas)

    Adrian has worked in the Tasmanian real estate industry since leaving high school in 1990. He is the proprietor and CEO of View Real Estate which has six sales and property management offices in Tasmania. Adrian is a board member of the Real Estate Institute of Tasmania as well as the immediate past president having served in that role for four years since 2010. He also sits on the Property Agents Board which is the regulatory authority in Tasmania and is an Associate of the REIA.

  • Christopher Mourd, Independent Board Director

    Christopher is the Head of Real Estate for the LJ Hooker Group. He is responsible for managing and growing LJ Hooker’s Australian commercial and residential networks. His extensive industry knowledge, insight and broad property background spans almost two decades.  As an alternate director to the LJ Hooker Franchise Board, and as a Director of LJ Hooker Commercial Sydney, Christopher’s local experience is augmented by invaluable and extensive exposure to the overseas property arena as an international property consultant in North America and the South Pacific.
