    September Quarter Records Decrease in Median Price

    The Real Estate Institute of Australia’s (REIA) Real Estate Market Facts report for the September quarter 2011 has recorded a decrease in the median house price for the Australian residential property market.

    “The weighted average capital city median price declined 3.7%,” said REIA President, Ms Pamela Bennett.

    Improvement in Housing Finance Continues

    Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) housing finance figures for October 2011 show in trend terms that, following half a year of consecutive decreases, the number of finance commitments increased marginally for the sixth consecutive month; the October increase was 0.7 per cent.

    Ms Pamela Bennett Elected as REIA president

    The Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) has elected Ms Pamela Bennett as its new president following her successful role as acting president since July 2011.

    Ms Bennett, who has been a member of the REIA board for a total of eight years and is also chairman of the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ), said she was honoured to formally take on this role in what is such an exciting, yet challenging time for the real estate profession.

    It’s Time For an Interest Rate Cut

    The latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures show that the Reserve Bank of Australia’s (RBA) consumer price measures of inflation are slowing down.

    The analytical series of trimmed mean and weighted median both increased by 0.3 per cent for the September quarter 2011, compared to 0.8 per cent in the previous quarter.

    Government’s Focus Positive; Let’s See Some Action

    Minister for Infrastructure and Transport The Hon. Anthony Albanese, has today released the annual State of Australian Cities 2011 report which shows a shortfall in housing supply and the state of housing affordability in Australia.
