Average Monthly Loan Repayments from December 1996. The spreadsheet contains quarterly values of average loan repayments per month calculated based on average variable standard interest rate applied to an average value of a loan assuming the length of the loan being 25 years. Figures are given for each state and territory as well as for Australia from the December quarter 1996.

Home Loan Affordability Indicators from March 1980. The spreadsheet contains home affordability indicators for Australia as well as for New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and Australian Capital Territory from the March quarter 1980. Home loan affordability indicators for Northern Territory are given from the March quarter 1987.

The spreadsheet also contains long term average figures for each state and territory as well as for Australia from the September quarter 2002.

Home loan affordability indicator (HLAI) is a ratio of family income to average loan repayments. The HLAI divided by a constant factor of 10 is the number of times by which median family income exceeds average home loan repayments in a full year.

Proportion of Median Weekly Family Income spent on Rent from December 1995. The spreadsheet contains proportions of median weekly family income required to meet the median rent for three bedroom house from the December quarter 1995. Calculation is based on median family income for each state and territory and median three bedroom house rents for each capital city.
