However usually perceived to carry a higher degree of financial risk, small businesses often face higher costs from financial institutions when accessing credit.

    After much speculation about a proposed housing bubble in Australia, REIA produced a research paper titled, Australian House Prices: Bursting the Bubble Myth.

    The paper provides evidence against a so-called housing bubble and shows there is no weight in comparisons that have been made between the housing crisis in the US and the future of housing in Australia.

  • Preventing the Unwieldy and the Unworldly

    The ‘first phase’ of ‘seamless economy’ reforms should be concluded as soon as possible.

    In particular, the COAG Select Council on Workplace Relations should be tasked to resolve the ‘control of business’ issue, which is a major concern for small business, by 31 December 2012.

  • The Gender Pay Gap

     Small business is a vital part of the Australian economy. The Australian Bureau of Statistics’ (ABS) Counts of Australian Businesses publication estimates that there were 2,141,280 actively trading businesses in Australia at June 2012. Of them, 61% did not employ, 34.9% employed fewer than 20 employees, 4.1% employed 20 persons and over. Of the total number of actively trading businesses, 93.9% had turnover less than $2 million.
